call for papers
We are pleased to invite submissions for the inaugural Brisbane Psychoanalytic Congress, to be held in Brisbane on Saturday, 22 November 2025.
The Analyst At Work: Practicing Psychoanalysis in a Changing World
This congress seeks to open a space for reflection and dialogue on the evolving nature of psychoanalytic clinical work in the 21st century. We invite psychoanalysts, psychoanalytic psychotherapists, and clinicians working within a psychoanalytic framework to consider how we practice today, and how the context of our work shapes what is possible, what is demanded, and what is at stake in the consulting room.
Whether you work in private practice, institutional settings, training, supervision, or research, we welcome proposals that explore:
Working with transference in contemporary practice
Psychoanalytic practice in an evolving digital landscape (e.g. the use of telehealth, the impact of AI, social media and other digital technologies on clinical presentations and practice)
Psychoanalytic supervision
The consulting room today: Emerging clinical dilemmas and challenges in everyday practice
What sustains psychoanalytic listening today?
All presentations should include an articulation of how psychoanalytic theory shapes clinical practice.
Types of Papers Considered:
Clinical papers with vignettes and theoretical reflection
Theoretical articulations of psychoanalytic concepts
Reflexive or experiential accounts grounded in psychoanalytic practice
The paper should be suitable for a 20-minute presentation (approx. 2,500–3,000 words).
Submission Requirements:
A professional author bio (100 words)
A title and proposal (200-300 words)
Important Note Regarding Responsibility of Content
All papers are presented under the author’s own name and responsibility. Each presentation reflects the presenter’s own analytic experience and theoretical orientation, shaped by their personal and professional development, including the stage of their analysis and training. The views of the presentations will not necessarily reflect the views of the Organising Committee, who are interested in facilitating a spirit of open conversation and to allow all presenters to speak for themselves.
📅 Deadline for Submissions: Friday, 30 August, 2025
Submissions will be peer-reviewed by the organising committee, and decisions will be communicated by late September. We hope you’ll join us for a day of engaged clinical conversation, thoughtful provocation, and the renewal of psychoanalytic exchange.
